Why is there no MPG yet?
MPG is measured from one full tank to the next, so it needs two full fill-ups: the first is where the log starts (its fuel was burned before you began), and the second closes the first tank.
Starting sooner
A car whose tank was full at a known odometer (a new car delivered full) can start sooner: set its starting odometer (Garage → Edit → Where the log starts) and the first full fill-up closes a tank. An electric car likewise needs two charges with the odometer.
