The average fuel and electricity prices on the Dash
In the US (its states and DC), Canada, the EU, the UK, Norway, New Zealand and Western Australia the Dash can show the official average fuel price, and in the US your state’s home electricity price too. Choose them, or turn them off, in Settings → Prices.
Average fuel price
For owners in the US counting in dollars, the Dash can show this week’s average retail price for your fuel and grade (from the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s weekly survey) and where it’s heading.
Tap the card for the full history since 2015: any grade or area, ranges from 3 months to all, the low, high and average, a year-by-year table, and your own fill-ups as dots against the average for their week.
Choose the fuel, grade and area, or turn the card off, in Settings → Prices → Prices on the Dash.
In Canada
In Canada, counting in Canadian dollars, the card shows Statistics Canada’s monthly average instead (table 18-10-0001-01: regular, premium or diesel at self-service stations; it has no midgrade), with the change from the month before and from a year before.
It surveys 18 cities, so your province’s figure is the average of its cities (Ontario’s is Toronto, Ottawa and Thunder Bay); Nunavut has none and gets Canada’s. Each month comes out about three weeks after it ends.
Price history has every month since 2015 for Canada and each province, with your own fill-ups in Canadian dollars beside it.
In Europe and Oceania
In Europe and Oceania, counting in your country’s own currency, the card shows its official average, named as your pumps name the fuel:
- In the EU’s 27 members: the European Commission’s Weekly Oil Bulletin (its Euro-super 95, Super E10 in Germany or SP95-E10 in France, and diesel; in euros, or in the zloty, the krona or the country’s own currency outside the euro).
- In the UK: the government’s weekly road fuel prices (unleaded and diesel, in pounds).
- In Norway: Statistics Norway’s monthly figure (95 and diesel, in kroner).
- In New Zealand: MBIE’s weekly average price paid (91 and diesel).
- In Australia, for a region in Western Australia: FuelWatch’s prices at Perth’s metro stations, standing for the state (no other state publishes a free average the app can use).
Weekly ones compare with the week before, Norway’s with the month before. Price history has each since 2015, with your own fill-ups in that currency beside it. Elsewhere there’s no card.
Average electricity price
In the US, the Dash can also show your state’s average home electricity price per kWh (the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s monthly figure, in US dollars, about two months behind; no other country’s is in the app) and how it compares with a year before.
With a home rate or logged charging, your own prices sit beside it, with public charging as a multiple of home. Tap it for the full history since 2001, any state, with your home charging month by month.
Choose the state, or turn the card off, in Settings → Prices → Prices on the Dash. Both cards’ prices come with the app’s weekly update, so they work offline.
