Add a vehicle
Garage → Add vehicle. Pick it from the EPA list to get its official ratings and tank size, or type it in. Give each vehicle a paint color: its numbers, tickets and charts are marked with it everywhere.
By its VIN
Or type its VIN (17 characters, on the windshield’s lower corner or the driver’s door frame).
In the phone app, tap Scan the VIN barcode and point the camera at the barcode on the door frame or under the windshield (a registration card’s works too). It reads the VIN on the phone and puts it in the field for you to check.
Then tap Look up by VIN: NHTSA’s decoder gives the year, make and model, which narrow the EPA list, and you pick the engine.
It knows vehicles made for the US and most from Canada and Mexico; for one the EPA doesn’t rate (sold only in Canada or Mexico), type the details in. The VIN is kept with the vehicle.
