Set up a vehicle
Region and units before your first vehicle
Before your first vehicle, the Dash offers Where do you drive? and your units, both optional. A region presets your units, currency and formats and brings what’s local, such as average fuel prices.
Nothing is guessed from your phone Your region and your units are yours to choose, now or later; until you do, the app counts in miles, gallons and US dollars.
Where do you drive?
Before your first vehicle, the Dash offers two things under Add vehicle, both optional.
Where do you drive? North America, Europe, Oceania or Asia, then the country. In North America: the US, Canada, Mexico, Central America or the Caribbean. In Europe: the EU, the United Kingdom or elsewhere. In Oceania: Australia, New Zealand or the Pacific Islands. In Asia, so far: Japan or South Korea.
Then its state, province, prefecture, region, county or parish if you like (the UK’s nation or territory).
It presets your units, currency and date and time formats, and brings what’s local:
- In the US: your state’s average fuel and electricity prices.
- In Canada: NRCan’s official ratings beside the EPA’s, and your province’s average fuel price.
- In the EU, the UK, Norway, New Zealand and Western Australia: the country’s (or Perth’s) average fuel price.
- Everywhere: your part of the world on the Passbook’s map.
Your units
Under it are your units (distance, fuel, fuel economy and currency), preset by the country you chose or, without one, miles, gallons, MPG and US dollars. Change any of them there, so the ratings, tank and odometer go in the units you want from the start.
MileWorks never guesses either from your phone, and Add vehicle never waits for them. The vehicle form shows the units it’s in, with Change. Once you have a vehicle, change them in Settings → Region, with the date format and the clock.
