Your home region’s units beside the ones where you are. Settings → Region → Home region is where you’re from; Current or home then picks, kind by kind, which each shows by.

Home region, and Current or home

Settings → Region → Home region: where you’re from (a country is enough). Its units, currency and date and time formats are its own and stay fixed: your baseline. The current region is the one above it, set by you or following your last log.

Then Settings → Region → Units → Current or home chooses, kind by kind, which one each shows by: distance, fuel, fuel economy, money, and the date and the clock.

Current is your own units at the region you set (anywhere in it, for a region set to a group such as the EU). While your last log is in another country it’s that country’s, or Quebec’s or Puerto Rico’s from elsewhere in Canada or the US (shown only: your own come back when you do).

For money it’s always your currency, so totals don’t change at a border.

Following your last log with no home region set, the region you set counts as home: abroad, Current shows the country’s units and Home your own, so Current or home can keep a kind on yours.

What you type in the forms is in the units shown, except the odometer, the trip meter, a trip’s or gig entry’s distance, the dash’s fuel economy and tire tread, which are in your own units (or the car’s own, when it has one), as your car (or your tread gauge) shows them.

What stays yours

What’s shown is only what’s shown: your own units and currency in Settings still decide:

  • The currency an entry’s rate is saved in (an entry saved again keeps the rate it was documented with).
  • Whose tax rules apply, and the IRS’s or CRA’s rates.
  • Your business rate.
  • The currency your home electricity rate is typed in (trip cost and Habits turn it into the money shown at today’s rate).
  • Which average fuel prices show.
  • The CSVs, the tax package and the reimbursement report.

Show both

Show both puts the other one’s unit in brackets, smaller, under the big numbers: 6.2 L/100 km over (38.0 MPG), on the Dash, the Garage, History’s tickets, Stats’ tiles, trip cost and under the forms’ fields. Charts, tables and the PDFs of the screens stay in the units shown.

Money shows one currency at a time, and a total never has a bracket. One entry’s amount and price (per the volume shown) can show the other currency at the rate that entry was documented with on its own day (your bank’s, if you typed it), never today’s, and none until that day’s rate is known.
